The Guizot awards

The 2002 François Guizot Prize

Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Anne d'Ornano, Mona Ozouf. Guizot-Calvados Prize 2002.

The fifth Guizot Prize of the Calvados County Council has been awarded to Mona Ozouf, for her book The confessions of the novel.

Director of research at the CNRS. She has devoted most of her work to the French Revolution, the history of schools and the republican idea. Recent books include Women's words (1995) and The democratic muse.

Confessions in the novel

In her book «Les aveux du roman, le XIXe siècle entre Ancien Régime et Révolution», published in 2001 by Fayard, she sets out to show, through the characters created by novelists, how the French, throughout the nineteenth century, were constantly torn between the moral and social values inherited from the Ancien Régime and the new values brought about by the Revolution, and were forced to come to terms with them. His book provides a better understanding of what people might have had in mind at that time, when society and mentalities were changing, and when modern France was being prepared.
