Confessions in the novel
In her book «Les aveux du roman, le XIXe siècle entre Ancien Régime et Révolution», published in 2001 by Fayard, she sets out to show, through the characters created by novelists, how the French, throughout the nineteenth century, were constantly torn between the moral and social values inherited from the Ancien Régime and the new values brought about by the Revolution, and were forced to come to terms with them. His book provides a better understanding of what people might have had in mind at that time, when society and mentalities were changing, and when modern France was being prepared.
