By examining the various aspects of his career, from his historical writings to his political commitment, we can better understand the profound impact he had on his era and beyond.
Born under the reign of Louis XVI and died under that of Mac Mahon, François Guizot influenced the political, intellectual and spiritual life of France for over sixty years through his personality, ideas and actions.
Here is the list of events planned in 2024 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of François Guizot:
- 15 March 2024 : Guizot and Europe Lecture by Yves Bruley at the Quai d'Orsay, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs
- 21 May 2024 : Guizot between history, memory and politics lecture by Laurent Theis and Guizot, letter-writer, historian and memorialist by Marie Dupond, at the congress of the Comité des Travaux Historiques et Scientifiques
- 24 May 2024 : Schools, the foundation of the nation ? The law of 1833 and its aftermath: conference by Edouard Philippe at Val-Richer
- 12 September 2024: date of the anniversary of the death of François Guizot (national commemoration)
- September 2024: Guizot, a protagonist of Protestantism in France André Encrevé's conference at the Société d'Histoire du Protestantisme Français
